August Newsletter 2011 :

Fall is here and the lazy days of summer will soon be behind us. Some of us will be sending our kids back to school or off to college. This time of year brings changes to our routine and to our life.

Whether you’re dealing with sending your baby to their first day of Kindergarten or dealing with an “Empty Nest”, it can be an emotional time for everyone. It’s important to be aware of your feelings and to ask for help for you or child if needed. Talk with your physician if you think you’re dealing with more than feeling “blue.” There are many treatment options available and you don’t have to suffer in silence.

In June, the Elliott Foundation was part of The Day of Caring held at Harding University. We provided free depression screenings and visited with many people to educate the public about the disease of depression. Over 1600 people were served throughout the day with free medical and dental screenings, free school supplies, diapers, and many other services.

The Elliott Foundation was pleased to be a part of the Searcy High School In-Service program again this year in August. Board members, Allen Busby and Susie Muirhead shared valuable information on suicide prevention and signs of depression. We look forward to working with them in the future.

October 6 is National Depression Screening Day and the Elliott Foundation will again partner with White County Medical Center to provide a depression screening site from noon to four. No appointment is necessary.

National Survivors of Suicide Day is scheduled for November 19 and the Elliott Foundation will again be working with The Center for Good Mourning at Arkansas Children’s Hospital to provide education and work to begin healing for those who’ve lost a loved one to suicide.

As always, we encourage you to contact the Dr. Robert E. Elliott Foundation if you need resources, literature of a speaker for your group or organization.

Sincerely,

Alana Pinchback
Executive Director
