Signs of Depression:
Sad Mood (persistent sadness, feeling of emptiness, anxiety) Irritable Mood
Fellings of hopelessnesss or pessimism
Excessive or inappropriate guilt, feelings of worthlessness or helplessness
Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed including sex
Decreased energy or fatique
Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
Sleeping too much or too little
Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide/Suicide attempts
Restlessness
Significant weight gain or loss/Appetite disturbance

What Do I Do If I Show Signs :
  1. Contact your family physician to eliminate other medical problems. Insist on referral to a psychiatrist and/or therapist for counseling and follow-up.
  2. Seek the support of family, friends, professionals, and community agencies. You are not alone.
  3. Educate yourself (and those around you) about the illness. Stick with the treatment process.
  4. Most of all remember, “It isn't your fault”.

What To Do If Someone Else Shows Signs:
  1. Talk to the person, and explain your concern.
  2. Put the individual in touch with a trained professional.
  3. Stay in touch with the person to ensure the treatments are being followed. Be involved in the treatment when possible.
  4. Be an encourager. Remind the person that “It is not their fault.”
